STATEMENT BY MR ASQUITH
“ FOREIGN AFFAIRS GROUP.”

Mr Asquith, Prime Minister, in reply to questions in tlio ! louse of Commons, denied that there_ existed any secret engagement entailing on Great Britain the obligation to render military or naval assistance to any other Power. Regarding tho possibility of keeping Parliament in closer touch with foreign affairs, ho had not yet seen any practicable proposal consistent with tho maintenance of tho undivided responsibility of the Executive. Mr Noel Buxton, M.P. for Norfolk North, presided at a meeting of the nowly-constitilted Liberal At.P.’s Foreign Affairs Group. Tho meeting resolved to urgo tho Government to take, steps to bavo an understanding with Germany.
