BAD HABIT LEADS TO SERIOUS FIRE. PRESS ASSOCIATION. HASTINGS. October 12. A five-roomed cottage on Karamn road was destroyed by fire at 11 o’clock- this morning. The owner (Thomas Ryan) was smoking in bod. and set fire to the bedclothes. He had a narrow escape. Only,a little clothing was saved. The house ■and contents were insured in the Standard office for £390. ‘ Tho insurances on yesterday’s fire were £l5O on the house in the New Zealand office, and £l5O on the furniture in the Alliance. •
