SECOND PACIFIC CABLE.

PRESS ASSOCIATION.. DUNEDIN, October 12. Tho proposal of the Pacific Cable Board to provide a second cable between Australia and .New Zealand was discussed at a special meeting of the Dnnedin Chamber oi Commerce.

It was resolved to urgo upon the Government tho desirability of laying such a cable from Melbourne to tho Blutf, for the following reasons:—That it would give the south equally* ready access to tho main Pacific cable as is enjoyed by tho north; that ‘it would minimise the risk of tho south being cut off from tho world when communication with the North Island is interrupted, and that the adoption of the now rout© would give greatly increased insurance against the total interruption of communication with the main Pacificcable, and would therefore bo a sound measure of public policy. )
