Sir Edward Strnchey, Parliamentary Secretary of the Board of Agriculture, states that tho foot and mouth diseaso outbreak in Somerset is serious in nine centres. The disease, be adds, is not traceable to foreign feeding stuffs.
ST. PETERSBURG LIGHTERS SUNK. ST. PETERSBURG, October 10. Ten grain lighters and fifteen coal and cotton lighters wore seriously damaged or sunk during a gale.
NATURAL ENEMY TO THE APHIS. SYDNEY, October 11.
A natural aphis destroyer, in the shape of a small parasitical fly, has appeared in Bathurst orchards. It is reported that the fly completcdy annihilates tho,aphis.
MR E. L. BATCHELOR’S FUNERAL. ADELAIDE, October 11.
There was a large and representative gathering at the funeral of tho late Mr Batchelor. Thousands lined tho route of the procession, and signs of mourning were general.
