Tho interim report of tho Shortage of Labour Commission has caused consternation in tho Trades Hall. Tho secretaries of the various unions declare that a largo number of members aro out of work.

Mr McGowen, State Premier, declares that last year the present Government spent £40,000 on immigration, which was more than previous Governments expended. This year it is proposed to &pend £OO,OOO. Tho Government will institute a system of nomination iri certain occupations where employment can bo guaranteed without tho displacement of labour already engaged. General immigration, lie said, is a matter for the Federal Government.
