NON-PUNCTURABLE TYRE

INTERESTING TO OWNERS OF MOTOR CARS AND CYCLES.

SPECIAL TO THE “ TIMES. ” CHRISTCHURCH, October 11

With a view to settling motor tyre troubles, a'resident has been working at an invention which he expects will entirely do away with punctures and their attendant delays, The new idea is very simple, and consists of a cork interior to the outer cover wrapped in canvas. It is claimed that the cork will have sufficient resiliency to preserve the cushion properties of the tyre, and will be light and nonpuncturablc. It is provided that the tyre shall be attached .to the rim, which will have a movable shoulder, by means of. clamps. The invention has been exhibited to several motor, experts in the city, but the inventor intends to proceed further with the idea before conducting any exhaustive tests. A FRENCH INVENTION, A resident of Havre (France) has recently patented and put into practical use an invention which he calls “a punc-ture-proof metal band for pneumatic tyres.” Its chief feature is a band of canvas covered with small hexagonal metallic discs, which are arranged to fit close one against another, and are riveted to the canvas so as to form a flexible armour. The band of canvas thus prepared is placed in a sheath of rubber, and in order to safeguard the tyre this sheath is placed between tbe air-tube and the outer cover. It is claimed that in this way it is impossible to puncture the air-chamber, and that cuts in the outer cover are in.no way harmful. Experiments have shown that there is considerably less heating of tjje tyre, and that resilience is the same.
