The quotations are not for selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of the shipments now on the market. The prices which follow are on an average a farthing per lb more than the values ex ship, this difference representing an average cost in expenses, handling, conveyance, and selling
A PALL IN TEN. LONDON, September 24. Tin, on the ‘spot, as quoted at £172 per ton, and at three months £159 10s, a drop of £1 15s since Friday last. The decline is attributable to large holders selling, HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Commerce Division of the Department of Agriculture and Commerce has received the loilowing cablegram from the High. Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, September 23rd. (Note. —Quota.loas. unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot); — MUTTON. The market is quiet, but firm; stock is moderate, Canterbury is scarce. Canterbury 4|d (id rise), Canterbury light wedghfc ogd (£a rise), North Island heavy weight 3*d per lb. LAMB. The market is firm; a large supply of Scotch and Dutch this week affects the market. The demand is falling off, bub output is satisfactory. Moderate supplies coming forward, and prices are well maintained. Canterbury bid, other than Can terbury s&d per lb (prices unchanged). BEEF. The market is quiet, but holders arc firm. Market ha® been favourably affected by chilled beef. Offerings are very small Now Zealand hinds Z'i<i (unchanged), force 2id pec* lb Ud rise). PORK. New Zealand pork 5d per lb. BUTTER. The market is firm, with an upward tendency, on account of a moderate 'supply; the Irish strike also affects the market. Danish 155 s (3s rise), Australian 125 s (3a ri c -e.‘, Siberian 12is per cwt (2s rise). CHEESE. The market is active, with a good demand, and holders are firm. Canadian 72s per cwt (3s rise). New Zealand cleared. HEMP The market is quiet, but moderate business doing:.
