THE SUMMER GAME

FEES' OF CLUBS TO CRICKET ‘ ASSOCIATION. AN INTERESTING SUGGESTION. At last. night's meeting of tlie Central District Cricket Club the chairman (Mr It. W. Burbddge) said that it appeared to him that the fees which the clubs had to pay to tho Wellington Cricket Association were too heavy. The clubs were greatly handicapped owing to the charges they had to pay. lie would like tho finances of tho association to be gone into carefully to, see if there could not be some reduction in the expenditure, or some method whereby the receipts could be augmented so as to relievo tho clubs of their heavy liabilities. It seemed to Mm that the association's receipts could be benefited by . charging to see certain matches. All through < last season there was not a representative match played on the Basin Reserve. That was bad policy on tho part of the association. By a match not being played against Auckland .£SO was lost. ' That £3O the clubs had to make up. He suggested that to make tho game more interesting to the public the rate of scoring should bo altered. The game would be improved vastly and made more attractive by mak. ing a rule that every maiden over should count two runs to the opposing side. A voice: That's a question for tho association to discuss.

Mr Burbiclge: My idea was that it would make the game more lively. Several other members thought that if the suggestion, were carried out it would tend towards making the game keener. Mr Burhidgo said if they could get the public to take an interest it would benefit the game and by doing this larger gates would bo produced and tho expenditure on tho part of clubs could be checked.
