THE TARIFF STRUGGLE

FARMERS’ FREE LIST BILL

PASSED BY AMERICAN SENATE.

By Telegraph—Press Association.— Copyright. WASHINGTON, August 2.

Tho “insurgent” Republicans and tho Democrats have passed through tho Senate tho Farmers’ Free List Bill, after rejecting tho House of Representatives’ Farmers’ Bill.

Tho Senate Bill is practically the sarao, save that meat products, Hour, and cereal products only arc admitted free when corning from countries with which tho United States has reciprocity agreements. Canada is obviously the country meant.

Tho Democrats regard this as a substantial victory, and they' intend, it tho president does not veto the Bill, to open the whole tariff question during the present session.
