RUGBY OF BY-GONE YEARS
"THE OLD BLACK CAVALET." On Saturday we shall commence the publication' of a series of articles on old Wellington football by Mr Charles Martor, who had thirteen years’ experience of the game in this city, many of them in an official capacity as secretary of the Wellington Union. Mr Marter will also be remembered as a member of the staff of the "New Zealand Times," before his departure for Sydney, where ho is now sub-editor of tlie “ Daily Telegraph.’’ It was during his long connection with the "Times" that he went through the " campaign" of thirteen years—lßSC to IS93—and this he will describe in bis article “ The Old Black Cavalry.” His stories, impressions and criticisms of the game and players of that period should have an interest not only for those who were his contemporaries, but also for the present day followers of the game, as they touch on some of the most stirring limes in the history of Kugby in Wellington.
