Nidd, "W, J, Gaudin, A, N, Mathieson. . . , In the report mention is made of the club’s plant being in fair condition, and as greater interest is now taken in sculling events tho committee deemed it advisable to place an order with Air G. Norton for four new scullers—two senior and two junior boats. Other boats on order are two junior convertible pairoared, and double scullers, and one pleasure boat. A regrettable feature -.of the past season was the non-success of. tho club’s representatives at various regattas. Crows competed at Picton, Wellington and Napier regattas, but failed to win a race. The reason was not far to seek, the crews bolding a leading position at the commencement of a race, but failed at tho business end through lack of the condition necessary to carry a crew to victory. The thanks of the club were extended, to donors of trophies and the. outgoing officials. In returning thanks for his re-election as club captain, Air Gaudin referred to the controversy that had been going on in the Harbour Board relating to the possibility of tho club’s sbed being shifted. So far no communication lind been received by the club from the board about the matter, and, personally, he did not know of a more suitable site than tho present one for rowing-sheds on tho harbour. According to an Act passed some years ago the rowing clubs were to bo granted leases for a term. Fresh leases, however, he understood, had been drawn ( up hut were awaiting signature. . Some time ago the City Council borrowed a large sum of money for recreation grounds for other sports, hut the rowing fraternity wanted nothing like this; they only wished to be left alone.
