WON BY BEAUMONT YEDRINES A GOOD SECOND. THE ONLY TWO TO FINISH. By Teleßra.pb—■Proas Association—Ooryritrht. LONDON, July 26. M. Beaumont won the “Daily Ala.il aviation prize. MM. Beaumont and Yedrines had a splendid race throughout the day. They were seldom far apart. 'Both airrived at the various stoppingplaces dazed and half numb, having hecn driven out of their courses by torrential rainstorms and violent gusty winds. M. Yedrines lost fifty minutes through losing his way, and having to descend three times to inquire his whereabouts. M. Beaumont raced and easily beat the Scotch express while crossing Shap Folk, in the Lake district. A TERRIFIC CONTEST. THE WINNER’S TIME. < M. Yedrines and M. Beaumont left Bristol within a couple of minutes of each other. There was a terrific contest for the' leadership. After touching Exeter and crossing Salisbury Plains M. Yedrines recovered 1120 seconds on the run to Brighton. The last stage to Brooklands was safely negotiated. M. Beaumont completed the circuit in 22 hours 16.98 minutes. M. Yedrines took 70 minutes longer. WHY M. YEDRINES LOST. OTHER COMPETITORS’ PERFORMANCES. . (Received July 28, 0.6 a.m.) LONDON, July 27. M. Beaumont rode a Bloriot monoplane. M. Yedrines rode a Borelmorane monoplane. Neither replaced any important parts of their aeroplanes during their flight. M. Yedrines was the quicker flyer, but mistakes cost him the prize. His ignorance of English was a severe handicap. He receives a consolation prize of £2OO. M. Beaumont’s experience as a naval officer made navigation by compass and map easy to him while he was able bo see the earth. He states that exploding boriibs showing white smoko made the best signals for landing places. M. Valentine reached Carlisle. M. Hamel’s aeroplane was damaged in Dumfriesshire, and Mr Cody reached Newcastle. ■
