MAYORAL HONORARIUM
MIRAMAR, COUNCIL’S ATTITUDE. MR BRODIE’S SERVICES. At last night’s meeting of the Miramar Borough Council a letter was read , from Mr George ( W. Houchen as follows: “Seeing in the paper that tho Mayor of Onslow has hem granted an honorarium, might I suggest that our , present Mayor be granted one also. : Pc tone and other boroughs have a. stated honorarium fox-, their Mayors. - and I think, in a progressive borough like ours, that something similar; should he cloxxe. . His Worship has pur a,lot of time into the affairs of Miramar. and little expenses in connection' with his work have to he homo by him. Therefore,-1 would respectfully .suggest that our Mayor he granted an hone- 1 ' rariura of, say, £73, or more accord- ■ ing to the finances of the borough.” The Mayor (Mr J. Brodic): If yon , like to discuss this' - letter I will go out - of the room. Ido not want to restrict councillors in expressing an opinion. Councillor Bell: It is a matter if ; wo can afford it. It ought to bo referred to tho finance committee. Councillor Richards: X do cot think ; our Mayor should look tor that sort of , thing . , , A councillor: I do not think he expects it. ... , . Councillor Richards said they had been rendered very good service by volunteers, and he thought volunteers ; , would alwavs do hotter work. They cad been very well served by volunteers in the past. .. It was decided that, Mr Houchen bo informed that the matter .would- re eoivo consideration. ■ ;
