GENUINELY PROSPEROUS

AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND ALIKE. By Telegraph—Proas Association—Copyright SYDNEY, January 13. Tho "Daily Telegraph," referring to remarks made by Mr Beeby, State Minister for Education and Labour, who .; returned fi-om a visit to NewZealand, says: "Mr Beeby found a happy, thriving people in New Zealand, and that is what unprejudiced New Zealanders find in New South Wales. Mr Beeby said he found no slums in New Zealand, but the question is—Would there be slums in Wellington if that city were as big as Sydney or Melbourne? A traveller's superficial impressions of comparative prosperity are not very trustworthy. The pleasant truth is that all the Australasian communities are enjoying a high degree of genuine prosperity. It is to bo hoped that Mr Beeby learned while in New Zealand the fact that a community may indulge in advanced legislation without possessing an organised Labour party. He could have learned it in Australia, but it is obtrusively visible in New Zealand."
