HEARING OF THE CONSPIRACY CHARGES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrights (Received May 30, 3.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, May 30. The Harper , conspiracy caso was. opened to-day. Hill protested that lia hsd already been tried and sentenced for tho same offence. Mr Justice Hood and the jury, howover, held that Hill'had been sentenced, for inducing other people to do a wrong act, and the present indictment was for doing a wrong act himself. Ho therefore stands trial with tho other accused.

Last Tuesday the Hon. J. ,D. Brown, Victorian Attorney-General, decided to file presentments against llobert Harper and William Harper, merchants, of Melbourne, and W. Brockett and "VV. Kemp, solicitors, of. Melbourne, charging them with conspiracy in relation to the well-known case of Konald v. Harper. Tho other accused persona in connection with the conspiracy charge are Patrick Hill and John Huxley, who wero committed by Mr Cresswell, P.M., and are new awaiting trial. The first lour persons named wero discharged by the police magistrate, who • considered there was no casa mado out aeainst them, but tho AttorneyGeneral haa power, il ho so chooßoa, to compel them to plead before a jury.
