At tho inter-university sports, Davis, of Melbourne, won the Quarter-mile Hurdle Race in 57 l-ssec, lowering his own world’s record by one-fifth of a second. |'On November 12th, 1906, J. L. Davis put up a record of 53 l-ssec over 440yde, 10 •hurdles, 3ft 6in high, on the Melbourne Cricket ground, and this he later on reduced to 57 2-ssec. The best English record is 57 4-ssec, which has : been done by T. M. Donovan at Crewe in 1896 and by J. B. Densham at Kennington Oval, in 1907, J. L. Davis jumped 23ft s£in and 23ft 6in in successive jumps at the Melobume University sports on May 16th, thus beating the Victorian record by over a foot.!
