FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS. MASTERTON NOTES. March 16. Mr Page, Mayor of Eketahuna. intends to contest the seat at the coming election. Mr R. Pitcaithly, of Rongomai, intends shortlv paying a holiday visit to Fiji. The Vallance Dairy Company yesterday paid out .£5300 to suppliers for milk for the month of February. The £OO allocated in connection with clearing the track at Mount Holdsworth has been made available by the Tourist Department. The Masterton Government depot has sent out this season over, fifteen tons of rabbit poison to settlers m various parts of the Wellington district. There is a plentiful supply of grass in the Lower Valley, which augurs well for the winter. There has been so far no sign of rust in the grass.

The Opaki Rifle Club will hold a field day at the Fairview range on Easter Monday, when the finals for the championship trophies will be fired. Mrs C. F. Vallance has presented a gold-mounted whip to the rider of the winning horse in the Ladies' Bracelet Handicap at the Masterton Racing Club's ineeting. Mr W. Cobeldick, of Wellington, has been appointed clerk of works in connection with the erection of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company's freezing works at Waingawa. The third competition of the Tararua Rifle Club for Mr aA. Magnusou's tiophy was won by Rifleman O. J. F. Petersen, with a score of 66. This rifleman now wins the trophy outright. The Masterton Boxing Club has one of the largest memberships of any similar institution in (lie Dominion. Mr Maloney, the recently appointed boxing instructor, will shortly! commence his duties.

A petition in divorce, in which the parties are local residents, has been filed and will come before the next sitting of the Wellington Supreme Court. The petitioner is a business man, and misconduct is alleged. * Mr A. J, Stone-Wigg, who recently disposed of his Te Rangitumau estate, has purchased Mr Gwynne Williams's preplei-ty, Wesitmerie, near Branoepeth. Mr AV. Thompson, stationmaster at Greytown, has now received official advice that the Government has no intention, whatever in that direction. Mr J. C. Mrs Albecktson, of Eketahuna, had an exciting experience with two. deer which were running on the Mangaoronga road, Mrs Albecktson, who had a child with her, was leading a horse along the road, and on passing the deer the horse took fright and bolted. The deer charged them, and they took safety on a fence. One deer then picked the child from off the fence 'on its horns and carried it to* the centre of the road. A party in a motor car came along and frightened the deer away. The matter was- reported to the"" Eketahuna County" Council, which body has decided to inform the Ekefahuniv branch of the Acclimatisation Society'that if the deer are not'removed, they will be destroyed, CARTERTON. The Morison'e Bush school hold their annual picnic to-morrow. It is reported that a slight frost was felt in Morison's Bush last weeki The annual picnic of the Dyerville school, Martinborough, is to be held on Friday next. . The accommodation at the South Wairarapa Hospital is at present taxed to its full extent.
