APPRECIATION. A Nelson correspondent tells of remarkably favourable prospects for the fruitgrowers of tie province. A record crop is in prospect, and considerable interest is attaching to the proiposed shipment of apples to London this season. He 'aiteo mentions that at a meeting of the . Stoke Fruitgrowers' Association the secretary read> a.t the request of members, the paipei* read at ■the recent Fruitgrowers' Conference by Mr A. H. Cockayne. Government Biologist, on "Emtdsuioation of Oils/' The members keenly followed this practical address on a subject of such vast importance to them, and expressed their appreciation of the valuable nature of the work undertaken by the Department of Agriculture in this connection. The hope was expressed that the biologist would soon be able to visit' the district and give further information on the subject to growers. Reparians; at the meeting of tbe Feilding Fruitgrowers' Association, on Monday night, on the recent Fruitgrowers' Conference, Mr F. , Mayo stated that one of the moist important items* at the conference was an exhibition by Mr Cockayne on. the emulsifying of oils. 'When Mr Cockayne had got a little furthdr, he would have an emulsifier which would do arway with the lime, salt and sulphur. That mixture was no Rood for rod spider, which was going to be the worst fruit pest in this distirct, but the emulsifier ■ would deal with this and similar pests.
