APPLE EXPORT

GUARANTEE TO BE GIVEN BY GOVERNMENT. The Department of Agriculture has (issued a circular to the fruitgrowers 'associations of the Dominion notifying •that the Government had, with a view to encouragement of the export of apples, decided to renew the guarantee of Id per pound net on all New Zealand grown apples sold in Europe, provided:—<a) That such shipments are approved by the departmental officers; (b) that they are packed in i&e Tasmanian or Peacock export cases; (o) that the consignments are shipped in cool storage; (d) that the associations make their, own arrangements -with the shipping companies and for sale in London; (e) tlhe Fruit Division will be glad to render every assistance; (f) the Government will ask the Produce Commissioner in London to examine the apples on arrival apd report. . The Nelson growers have already approached one of the direot shipping compamios in regard to the necessary space, and the Hawke's Bay Associa.lmsi has notified Mr T. W. Kirk, Chief of fiheJFruit Division, that it is ■in communication with the Stoke people in regard to the matter. In connection with this desirable ■movement it is interesting to note that Tasmanian growers >anticipa.t© a bumper season, and are arranging for steamer space for 500,000 oases, 125,000 cases in excess of last, year's shipments. An endeavour is also to be made to regelate shipments and to lold over in cool storage fruit ■which, may cause a slump on the London- market.
