MAINLY ABOUT PEOPLE. LATEST PERSONAL NOTES FROM HOME. FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. LONDON, September 24. Tho death occurred this week- of tho Rev. Francis William Holder, lons the vicar of St. Mildred's, Leo, tho aged father ot Mr Philip Holder, wellknown in New Zealand as a runholdor in tho Southland district. Mr Holder csmo Homo some weeks ago to his father, and was able to he with him constantly in his last illness.

Lieutenant ,A. E. Dunn, R.N.R., chief officer of the Notv Zealand Shipping Company’s Kaipara, has been awarded a first-class certificate _in connection with a recent examination in gunnery, at tho Naval Gunnery School at Devonport.

Mrs H. Percy Brown, of Feeding, who is in England just now, has been visiting relatives in various parts _ of the kingdom—Brighton, Devonshire, and Cambridge. It is Mrs Brown’s first visit to the Old Country, and she is thoroughly enjoying her travels.

Miss Grace Armstrong, _ the wellknown Dunedin dentist, is in Regina, Sask (.Canada), with her sister Norah, at one time, a, sister at tho Dunedin General Hospital.

Miss Christine Mackenzie, of Dunedin, who came by ivay of Canada., has been touring in the Highlands, on the Continent, and in England. She and her sister return to New Zealand in October.

Miss J. Orr, of Wellington, who is spending a twelve months’ holiday at Home, has already seen a good deal of the Old Country south of the Trent, and’ has paid a brief visit to Paris. Now, having seen something of London sights, she is about to make further tours in the midlands, _ after which she proposes to visit relations in Ireland, and later contemplates a tour in Scotland.

Mr Hudolnh Foil, of Dunedin, har, paid a three' months’ visit to England, and returns early in October.

Miss Edith M. Eempthorne, of Nelson, who arrived in England at the end of June, after a splendid passage hy tho Arawa, has been spending her time at Home in traveling about the country between Leeds and Brighton. Now she has settled down in London in order to continue her musical studios at tho Royal Academy of Music, and expects to remain here for at least a couple of years.

On September -IGth, at St. James’s, Norlands, John William Kenneth, eldest son of Mr W. D. L. Dallington, of Christchurch, New Zealand, was married by tho uncle of the bride, tho Rev. W. T. Burgess, assisted by three other clergy, to Ethel Katharine, youngest daughter of Mrs Lawrence, of 5, Upper Addison Gardens, W.

Mr and Mrs Riddles, of’ New Plymouth, with their little daughter, arrived by tho R.M.S. Orontos on September 6th, and intend to visit tho North of England, Franco, Germany, and America, not returning to New Zealand till next March.

The widow of the late Captain Henry Mercer, Royal Artillery, who fell at Rangiriri, in the Maori war, died on September 22nd at Wimbledon, and was buried in Torquay cemetery.
