SCHOOL BOY RUN OVER BY TRAIN. LOSES BOTH LEGS. PRESS ASSOCIATION. WHANGAEEI, November 1. As a train was drawing into the Mair station at 4.10 this afternoon a High School boy named Grigg, aged about twelve years, a son of the schoolmaster at Kaurihohoro, fell when trying to step aboard. Tho wheels of tho train passed over both legs, rendering amputation necessary. Tho boy’s condition is critical. BURNED TO DEATH. GREYMOUTH, November 1. James Snead, an old-age pensioner, who was very deaf, was found burned to death yesterday morning, his hut having been totally destroyed. EXTRAORDINARY DEATH. FATAL TASTE FOR METHYLATED SPIRIT. MAN’S DRINK IGNITES. ASHBURTON, November 1. An inquest was held this morning in regard to the death of Bernard Gallagher, an old-age pensioner, who lived by himself. It seems that deceased had been in tho habit of drinking methylated spirit, and on October 19th, when doing so, tho spirit ignited and Gallagher was severely burned. He was taken to tho hospital, where he died on Saturday. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimony that death was due to exhaustion following delirium.
BUN OVEB BY A TBAIN. ASHBUBTON, November 1. At tho inquest touching the death of John Bichards, who was run over at Hinds on Friday afternoon, a verdict of accidental death was returned. KICKED BY A HOBSE. DUNEDIN, November 1. A child named Graham, aged two and a half years, son of a farmer at Springs, Middlemarch, died yesterday as the result of injuries through being kicked by a horse in a yard on Saturday. HEABT DISEASE, BLENHEIM, November 1. 'While tho jubilee celebrations were in full swing at one o'clock to-day, a man, about fifty-five years of age, named Walter Faulding, who had been a saddler here for many years, dropped dead in one of tho main streets. The -cause of death was heart disease. Deceased leaves a family. •MINING FATALITY. HOKITIKA, November 1. A fatal accident occurred in the Boss Goldfields, Ltd., shaft at noon. Alfred Steadman was struck on tho head and killed outright by the -monkey guide in falling. A companion named Misson was also injured hut not dangerously. Deceased’s wife was at the shaft with the dinner and the men were just preparing to oome up for crib When the accident happened.
