AUCKLAND, November 1. The directors of tho Waihi Gold Mining Company have declare*! another dividend or 4s per share, payable on December Ist. This will absorb £99,131, and will bring the total dividend and bonuses declared by the company to date to .£3,615,183. Tho Waiotahi mining return shows .£1054 from 163 tons of ore and 321 b of picked stone. Gold returns for October show that bullion won amounted to .£111,046, and increase on tho figures for the corresponding month 01 1908 of £4090.

The first shipment' this season of Argentine butter has been sold. Salted realised Ills to HBs per owt, unsalted 118 s. Babbits aro firm, prices unchanged. English supplies are smaller. Copper.—On the spot, £57 13s 9d per ton; three months, £SB 15s; electrolytic £59 15s. Tin. —On spot, £133 2s 6d; three months, £l4O. Lead.—There is a slight slackening of consumption, but the undertone of the market is firm. Quotations rule at £l3 2s 6d. Bar silver. 23 1-lCd per ounce standard. Wolfram is quoted at about 295. Ttn plates, 13a 3d and 14s 3d(j tram rails, £5 ss. Waihi Junction shares arc quoted buyers 45s Id, eaUers 47s 6d. LONDON MARKET REPORTS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE MESSAGE. Tlio Commerce and Tourists Division has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, October 30th:— The mutton market is very quiet, and speculative buying has apparently ended. Buyers are not inclined to make forward purchases at present prices, but stocks of mutton on hand aro light and are firmly hold in a few hands. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4Jd uer lb, and North Island I. Mutton has only reached present prices on one occasion since February, 1907. The lamb market is quiet, and there is a dull sale for all lamb. The overage price to-day for Canterbury brands is 4Jd per lb, and North Island 4Jd per lb The beef market is steady. The avemff© price to-day for New Zealand hinds is 3-VI per lb, and fores 3d per lb. The butter market is firm for best quality, but the high price restricts the
demand. Buyers of butter are holding back expecting prices to go lower. Price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is 117 s per owt, Argentine 116 s, Australian 115 s, Danish 127 s, and Siberian IDos. The cheese market is dull, and there is only a small demand. Average price of finest New Zealand cheese to-day is 56s per cwt. Tho hemp market is quiet but steady. New Zealand good fair on spot per ton £27 10s, Now Zealand fair grade on spot per ton £2G 10s; fair current Manila on spot per ton £2O. January-March shipment. New Zealand good fair per ton £27, New Zealand fair grade per ton £2O; fair current Manila per ton £25 10s, Manila output 33,000 bales. Tho cocksfoot seed market is firm, and there are light stocks on hand. The average price for ,bright clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed weighing 17lb per bushel on spot is 70s per cwt. Tho hop market is firm, and prices continue to advance. # Tho kauri gum market is firm, with more enquiry. Stock, 362 tons. Tho Wellington Stock Exchange has received advice that the total return from tho Undaunted Gold Mining Co., Ltd., for October, is 630 z. Tho exports from Auckland for October show an increase in almost every line. In gold and silver the increase was ,£38,612; butter, .£16,385; on cheese, £3832; wool, £4749; flax, £3071; tallow, £3172; gum. £34,741 —all increases on the figures for October, 1908. Tho Customs duties collected in Auckland for October totalled £59,923, an increase of £5678 over tho total for October of last year.
