A young man named John McLean, alias John- McDonald, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having brought liquor aboard H.M.S. Pioneer. Ho waa remanded' until Monday on the application of Chief-Detective Broberg. THEFT OF BOOTS. A man named Alexander McKinnon pleaded guilty to a charge of having stolen a pair of booto from a. shop on Lambton Quay. He had boon noticed loafing round the door of the shop where there was a number of pains of boots hanging out as samples. Ho' took a pair and walked away briskly, ; but the shopkeeper saw him and when he overtook the man gave him into the custody of a constable. McKinnon was fined 20s. or in default seven days’ imprisonment with hard labour, and an order was made for the return of the boots to the owner. DRUNKENNESS. A man charged with drunkenness, who had been admitted to bail, was treated as a first offender and fined 10b, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. ,
