The barquentiue Pendle Hill will be ready to sail from AVellington to-day for Sydney. The vessel has a lead of. 201,000 feet of white pine. The steamer Arapawa has pnt up some ’good performances in handling cargo, but ou Friday morning (says the "Wanganui Herald ’’) she eclipsed all others. She berthed at the wharf at 8 o’clock, discharged 198' tons of cargo, took in 25 tons, including some hea-vv machinery, and left the wharf at 10.30, thus handling 223 tons in 2J hours, and sailing on the same tide. It seems doubtful whether the lonic, from London and Plymouth via Capetown and Hobart, will reach Wellington in time to berth this evening, if the medical ■ inspection can be com pletod in time the lonic will berth at No. 1 South, Queen’s wharf, this evening. A private message states that the Huddart Porker steamer Ulimaroa arrived

at Melbourne at 7 o’clock on Saturday morning from New Zealand ports \ia Hobart.

The Maori Land Company's steamer Lauderdale is expected to sail from Nydia Bay to-morrow for Hokiauga, from which port she proceeds to Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania, and back to New Zealand.

The auxiliary schooner Huia _ sailed from Hokiauga yesterday for AVcllington and Lyttelton. The vessel will discharge part of her cargo of timber at AVellington.

The coastal steamer Gertie is duo at AVellington to-day from Foxton to load a consignment of water-pipes ox Drayton Grange, for the Levin water works. The Queen of the South is taking a load of 59 tons of binder twine from Foxton to Picton to-day. Tile sailer Marie, which was announced some weeks ago to load case oil at New York for Lyttelton and Dunedin, is a French , barque of 2298 tons gross. She is duo at Lyttelton about the end of May. Captain G. T. Hull (of Messrs McArthur and Hull) is about to take over the AVellington agency of the Paparoa Coal Mining Company. Mr D. A. Aiken, assistant general manager of the Union Company, arrived from South yesterday by tiio Maori.

The Wootton left Lyttelton on Friday afternoon for Kaiapoi and Foxton, and the Kairaki sailed from Lyttelton at 2 a.m. on Saturday for Kaiapoi and Greymouth." The Wootton is to; load timber at Collingwood for Lyttelton.

The Huddart Parker steamer Victoria, which arrived at. Auckland at 1 p.m. yesterday from Sydney, had 50 saloon and 52 steerage passengers, and 525 tons of cargo for Auckland. Strong head winds- were, responsible for the Tarawera not reaching Wellington until - 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon from . Dunedin and Lyttelton. The master of the auxiliary ketch Koreru (at Auckland) hah been unable to procure a second mate at the northern port at a month, and, ho has sent to .Wellington to secure a man. The ketch sails on -Wednesday; 1 ; Mr R. Crowe, late fourth officer of the Tarawera, transferred to the Kini as third, at Lyttelton.. The work of converting the Aramoho into a ketch at Wanganui is progressing rapidly. A 'mainmast is being rigged, up, and when this has boon completed a cargo of timber will be taken aboard and the vessel will then sail. for Gisborne.

The Mimiro, which, reached Wellington from Liverpool yesterday, met with a large amount of floating ice when passing Heard Island, and on one occasion had to 7 turn round in order co clear herself of the’floes. Advice has been received by the Marino Department that ou Friday afternoon’ tile steamier Claymore look roundings in Hokianga. The lead showed 15ft m the main channel and 12ft in the south channel, both at low tide. These soundings indicate a good deal of shoaling :n the channel. ,

Mr Scott, of the New Zealand and African Company’s staff, is cn route to Sydney by the Warrimoo on holiday leave.. He will return via Auckland. Owing to the shortage of railway trucks the Koromiko was unable to do any discharging on Saturday morning. The Union Company’s steamer Kini went into dock at- Lyttelton on Friday for general overhaul, survey and repairs to propeller. The Ngahere will dock at the , same port to-morrow or on AVecluesday for annual survey and’ overhaul. The training ship Dartford is to follow.

The Mararoa waited at Wellington till 11.40 o’clock on Saturday night for the convenience, of those passengers arriving from Nelson and Picton by the Takapuna who desired to proceed South.

Last Thursday the Blenheim brought in'to Blenheim’ what is claimed to be the biggest cargo yet landed there from one bottom. The vessel's freight comprised about 130 tons. CD of which were agricultural implements. MOANA LEFT SYDNEY.

NIWARU AND MIMIRO. It is, not often that two of tho Tyser Company’s big liners Occupy neighbouring berths alongside Jervois quay. Ycsteiday afternoon the Mimiro, from Liverpool via Auckland, arrived at Wellington and was neatly berthed by Pilot Dawson in the strong northerly wind astern of the Niwaru. The Mimiro will discharge part cargo at this port, and will get away prooably on 'Wednesday with remainder of cargo for Lyttelton and Dunedin. , _ * , . To-day the Tyser liner Niwaru will move from Jervois quay to,the Glasgow, 'wharf for Homeward loading, and will proceed on Wednesday to Napier ami other Dominion ports to load wool for the London January sales. DANGER TO NAVIGATION. The Marine Department was advised on Saturday by tho East Cape light keeper that th.e Onion Company’s steamer Wanaka had signalled the lighthouse that in longitude 177 east the vessel had passed several heavy pieces of timber, which are a menace to navigation _ The position of the obstacles would be about half way between Mercury Bay and Ca-pe Runaway.
