THE SPIRIT OF EMPIRE

DEVELOPMENT IN RECENT YEARS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, October 28. The Ear] of Jersey, formerly Governor of New South Wales, presided at a lunch given by London bankers and merchants to Sir Obrnthwaite Hector Rason, whoso term of office as West Australian Agent-General has expired. In proposing tho health of the guest, Lord Jersey declared that he thought Britain did not sufficiently remember the great services rendered by th© Agents-General in linking the Empire and promoting commerce. Sir O. H. Rason said tho most notable feature in public sentiment during his term of office was the marvellous development of tho true Empire spirit, not only in England, but throughout tho colonies, which were now showing by practical methods their anxiety to help to bear tho burdens of the Old Country.
