Island steamers bring further news of murders by natives. Herr Dammkohler, a German explorer, with a companion, was prospecting for gold in Gorman New Guinea, when natives surprised his camp. Herr Dammkohler was speared to death, and his companion wounded. The latter, however, managed to escape. A punitive force has been sent. Another tragedy has occurred in the Solomon Islands. Natives attacked a station occupied by Captain Joe Buiskie, a well-known trader, murdered his native wife and family of young children, and looted the station during Jiuislrio's absence. Steps are being taken to punish the murderers.

Later details of the Now Guinea murder show that Herr Dammkohlcr and his companion shot down fifteen natives before they were overcome. In the Solomon Island tragedy, besides Captain Buiskie's wife and two children, three natives (two men and a woman) attached to tho station were massacred.
