LANDS FOR SETTLEMENT

TWO LARGE AREAS TO BE OPENED UP. (Special to the, "N.Z. Times.”) RAETIHI, December 9. A deputation from the Raetihi Progressive Association waited on the Wellington Land Board this morning, and received the assurance that a portion of the South Waimarino block, containing 11.000 acres would bo open for selection next February, and that a. further portion of the same black, some 36,000 acres, would be open about July. These blocks form part of a block containing 115.000 acres, which is the largest area of Crown land left in the Wellington district. The land is capable of carrying 2i sheep to the acre, and the residents here look forward to the opening of these blocks as giving an impetus to the progress of the town and district. The Commissioner also promised to put on the market a number of Crown sections in the town of Raetihi.
