LORD HAWKE’S LUCKY COIN.
When Lord Hawke, in company with the Notts captain, Mr A. O’. Jonee, left the pavilion at Headingly just prior to the opening ‘ of the match between Yorkshire and Notts on Monday. July 13, the Yorkshire captain found that, in changing into his lia.nnels. he had forgotten to put any money in his pocket. Turnip# to a group of spectators near the rails of the pavilion he asked if anyone could lend him a coin, “Hero yon are,” responded one jolly-looking Yorkshircman, “it'sa lucky '■an. my lord.” “I hope it is," replied Lord Hawke, spinning the coin in the air. The lender was right. Lord Hawke won the toss and the privilege of sending in his team first. Lord Hawke was delighted, and pitched the spectator his “lucky penny.'’ observing, “You were quite right; thanks very much." Lord Hawke and Mr Jones returned to the pavilion arm-in-arm.
