A girl named Voltarine Leieyno, an Anarchist, invited one thousand unemployed Italians, Russians, and negroes, to carry the red flag to tho City Hall and submit their grievances to the Mayor.
The procession led to flerco battles with the police, and a score of shots were exchanged before the disturbance was quelled. Some of the rioters used knives.
DISTRESS IN NEW YORK. GREAT ARMY OUT OF WORK. NEW YORK, February 23. It is officially stated that over a million and a quarter persons in New York city are in need of relief. A couple of weeks ago it wan reported that mere wore four thousand unemployed in Chicago, forty thousand in »t. Louis, thirty ttmusand in Philadelphia, thirty thousand in Boston, and ten thousand in Pittsburg.
