March 25. 26.—Taranaki J. C. Autumn. March 26, 2T7.—Masterton R. C. Autumn Meeting. , . April 20, 21.—Feilding J. C. Autumn. NOTES BY "ADVANCE." THE WOODVILLE MEETING. The totahsator turnover at tho Woodvillo meeting exceeded the turnover at the corresponding meeting last year by .£6070, although it fell short of the amount handled in December. The meeting will result in a substantial profit and further improvements to tho club's private j>roperty will be proceeded with. The hospitality extended to visitors by the officials of the Woodville Club was no doubt to a great extent responsible for a great many of the visitors being present at the meeting. The racing passed off without protest or objection. Throughout both days the racing was interesting, and some of the finishes were exciting. The Cup brought out a field of nine. The Pahiatua Cup winner, Loiret (Seaton Delavai—St. Loire) has improved out of all knowledge. She scored comfortably from .King's Lynn (Seaton Delavai freon a daughter of St. Leger), Waipaku, runner-up in the Ash-hurst and Foxton Cups, beat all the others. The disappointments of the race were Kuravraka and Nova. The latter finished absolutely last, and was allowed to stay in his box the second day, as also was Loiret, On the second day King's Lvnn again ran a good race. Kurawaka was a trifle lucky to beat Aberration. Ballarat made her only appearance in the President's Handicap when she ran a good second to Gauze. The Gold Reef mare was not handicapped on the second day. She will make her next appearance at Wanganui. Probability (Shaped well in the. race won by Gauze, but was the first beaten in the Maharahara Handicap, won by Chicane, who was non© the worse for the pipe-opener she got, in the Shorts an hour and a half earlier. Sunbonnet beat Oxton cleverly in the Telephone Handicap. She is only a pony, and the extra weight steadied her in the Snorts. Merrie Zealand and Rancipapa represented the best form in the hacks. Both must be nearly out of that class. Eangipapa gave weight and a beating to everything except Hydraulic on the second day. Herrie Zeaiand made his only appearance in the race he won when he earned top weight. . The special feature of the Woodville meeting was the excellent, starting of Mr C. O'Connor, who came from Auckland to assist. The Auckland sire Seaton Delavai had thro© representatives at the Woodville meeting. Loiret ran first on her only appearance, Seaton Dale finished first and second, and King's Lynn second and third. Ballarat's half-brother, Ancyle, showed pace in the Victoria Hack Handicap on the opening day of the Woodville meeting. When ho acted as runner-up to Somali. J. W. Lowe, the Trentham trainer, journeyed through to Woodville with bluebell. The Conqueror max© ran two good races, fast time being put up on both occasions. H. Telford, the Awapuni trainer, scored hie first win with First Mate at Wood--1 ville. He is - a three-year-old colt by Bhsej acket (St. Leger—Antelope) from Jennie, Nordenfeldt—Victoria, by Feve—Memento, by Dainty Ariel. At Woodville Pearli© ran in the ownership of Messrs Bowen and Corrigan, and Supplement made her first appearance in the colours of Mr E. Cooper, who formerly owned Pear-lie. The latter as engaged at the Shannon meeting on Wednesday. The Advance —Endeavour geldingdid not appear at the Woodville meeting. The writer suggests the name of "Excelsior" for the gelding. Aberration was the unlucky horse at the Woodville meeting. In the Cup the girth broke in the straight when he was making his run, and F. Langston© passed the post bare-backed. On the second day challenged Kurawaka half-way down the running, and tried to take the rails, but was blocked, and had to pull out on tho inside. This incident probably cost Trim the race, as a couple of stride© past the post he had his head in front. His connect ions were quietly confident, as the horse had done a satisfactory gallop with Moloch before leaving home.

Lethean, who opened his winning account in the Ballance Hack Welter on the second day of the Woodville meeting. is owned by Mr W. Andrew, of Pahiatua. The Lethe gelding was bought by his present owner at Slartinbarongh at Christinas time, and is one of the useful Lethe tribe. His dam is by Prince Cole, and is said to be. a halfsister to Eebel, Eewolntdon, and Rebellion, well-known perforumrs in the Wai-

rarapa district a few seasons back. Lethean is trained by P. Johnston at Foxtom J. Prosser, the Porima trainer, took three horses to the WoodviUo meeting', and put up a creditable record. Plnymato won both his engagements in good *drle from a lot of moderates, excepting Roral Blue, who appears to have lost all* form. Gauze won her first race, but failed to see the journey out on the second day. Kurawaka so disappointed her connections in the Cup that she was allowed to run loose on the second day. Both Kurawaka and Gauze wore sore, on the second day, and moved scratchlly. The Taranaki contingent held their own at WoodviUo. On the opening day Somali was successful in. the Victoria Hack Handicap. On the second day tho Cyienian gelding Cyreno put up a smart performance in the Shorts, when ho broke Imin I sec. He carried the same weight as on the first day, when he ran third. When Hydraulic won tho Kumeroa Hack Handicap from end to end ho paid the biggest dividend at the meeting. On the previous day he ran absolutely last. Hydraulic was bred at Mr S. H. Gollan's stud by Waduku, from tho well-bred Hine-nuitopo (Carlyon— Namoa). Mr*' S. Pitt, the Stratford owner, was also represented at Woodviljo by Fuhninator and Silver Shell. When Fulrainator scored at Bulls in the spring, ho gave promise of turning out something useful, but appears to have lost all form lately. He showed signs of contact with the hard tracks, and may do better later in the season. Considering the amount of travelling and racing she has done. Silver Shell looked bright and big on it.

A. Oliver, who has not been the saddle for eorao time, made his reappearance at the Woodville meeting, and won the Scurry on First W. Price, who has not boon seen in the saddle much lately, won two races. W. H. McKay was not able to ride on the second day of tho Woodville meeting, in consequence of injuries received when Hydraulic kicked him on the opening day. T. O'Brien had tho mount N on Woipafcu and Waioola on the second day. DUNEDIN ACCEPTANCES.
