A matter that attracted some attention was a sort of ebullition that was going on in the tank, volumes of gag continually rising to the surface. The doctor said this was quite a normal condition of affairs, and .was rs it should be, but the borough authorities thought that it betokened something else, as it had only been noticed during the past few weeks. The effluent from the tank was found to lo clear ana odourless. The party subsequently paid a visit to the abattoirs, whore satisfaction was also expressed by 'Hr. A suggestion being received from the Feilcling Borough Council for the holdmgv of a conference of public bodies recarding the best methods of dealing with tho erosion of the Oroua and Manawatu rivers, tho Council decided to be represented on tho occasion by the Mayor and one other of its members. / , Tli©' following resolutions were earned 'on the motion of the Mayor: That the Conned! take into immediate consideration the advisability of erecting a second stop-bank at Hokowhitu, and that the sanction of property owners be at once obtained : that application bo made to the Treasurv for an advance of £6OO on account of tho amount placed on tho Estimates ; for assistance in protecting the banks of the Manawatu river within the -borough boundary from erosion, and that die engineer and town clerk prepare a statement cf the liabilities incurred to ‘ 3ate and forward same in support of • the application; that the engineer h>; instructed to at once communicate , .vith Mr Robinson, Government Engineer, asking him to fulfil his promise jo further advise tho Council upon the icst methods of protecting the river ia:nks from erosion within tho borough boundaries, taking into consideration he increased sum at the disposal oi i>ho Council for the purpose.
