i'HE NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL^EETING. (From Onr Own Correspondent.) FEILDING, September 13. The Now Zealand Hereford Cattlebreeders’ Association hold its eighth, annual meeting hero this afternoon. The president, Mr D. P. Buchanan, was in the chair. Eight members were pro.■*ent. ANNUAL REPORT. The report staled that the association hud a profit of <£5G -Is 8d on the year's transactions, the balance of over liabilities now being .£ll2 os. In regard to the considerable sum, .£2B ss, shown as book debt--., it was pointed out that since the statement of accounts was placed in the hands of the auditor a large proportion of the amount had been collected —too late to figure as cash in hand. A noteworthy feature*of the year had been the increase in membership, the number now on the roll being 27. Regretful reference was made to the departure from New Zealand of Mr .Tames Stuckey, the moving spirit in the formation of the association and an earnest worker in its interests since its inception. Ho had acted as honorary secretary from November 18th, 18%, until August sth, 1905, and the present flourishing' position of the association, financial and otherwise, was, in great measure, due to his efforts. The president ana vice-president (Messrs D. P. Buchanan and A. H. Russell), with Messrs P. Arbon and J. McGregor, os members of the council, retired in the usual course, but were eligible for re-election. Mr G. F. Moore resigned his seat on the council. Members were reminded that Mr Buchanan had been elected president by the council upon the retirement of Mr Stuckey on May 3rd, 1907. THE BALANCE-SHEET. The statement of assets and liabilities showed assets amounting to <£4l2 9s, including copies of the various issues of the Herd Book set down at <£l44 ss. Under the heading of "liabilities," the chief item was balance, <£4l2 ss. The * receipts totalled .£154 12s lid. Sales of Herd Books amounted to <£l4 10s, entry fees. therein .£7C 14s. The annual subscriptions came to <£22 Is. THE PRESIDENT'S REMARKS. The president said the year had really been very successful. There was no doubt that now the Hereford was rapidly coming into more general favour all over the world. Reference was also made to the departure of Mr Stuckey, the chairman suggesting that his portrait should bo published in the next volume of the Herd Book. The president alluded to the dispersal of Mr Stuckey’s famous To Rangitumau herd, and congratulated those members who had had the enterprise to take the unique opportunity thus afforded of obtaining highCiuss animals. It was a matter for congratulation that, with the exception of five heifers taken to Tasmania, the whole of the herd had stayed in the colony. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, on the motion of Messrs Arbon and McGregor. The meeting also adopted the president's. suggestion to ask Mr Stuckey for his portrait for publication. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. , Mr D. P. Buchanan (Feilding) was reelected president unopp9sed. Other officers elected w'ore: Vice-president, Mr J. McGregor (Masterton); council, Messrs F. W. Arbon (Pohangina), G. M. Currie (Wanganui), and A. J. Foxward (Palmerston); treasurer, Mr J. McGregor (Masterton); auditor, Mr,G. W. Sellar (Masterton); hon. solicitor, Mr P. L. Rollings (Masterton). NEW MEMBERS. The following new' members wore elected: Messrs H. J. Dagg (Masterton), Dagg Bros. (Masterton), A. J.. Stone-Wigg (Masterton), Morton Bros. (Waioru). A TRIBUTE. Hr J. McGregor said he thought it would only be right for the association to make some formal recognition and appreciation of the very excellent work done in its interests by the late president. Not only should Mr Stuckey's work as a breeder be recognised, but also his remarkably successful labours in connection with the association. He moved that the association should pass a resolution in this direction.

The motion was seconded by Mr McGregor, and carried unanimously.
