The after section of the steamer Suevic (the fore-part of which was savored and was left on the rocks near the Lizard) lias been dry-docked. Largo crowds are visiting the vessel. Japan is ordering in England a 21,000 ton battleship, at a cost of two and a quarter millions sterling. Several congratulatory addresses and many telegrams were handed to Lord Lister (the well-known surgeon, who was Surgeon-Extraordinary to the late Queen Victoria) and the poet Algernon Swinburne, on the occasion of their birthdays. Lord Lister received congratulations from a thousand Danish doctors. The "Standard” states that Lord Elgin, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has decided not to publish the documents relating to Sir J. A. Swottenham’s resignation of the Governorship of Jamaica, despite tho promise of Mr Churchill, Undcr-Sec-retary for the Colonies. DOME, April 7. The Turin police discovered a railway men’s organisation to rob luggage. Many arrests havo been made. , MELBOURNE, April 8. A cyclone struck the east end of Bairnsdalo, a town of about 1500 population, in Tanjil County, and unroofed several buildings and damaged many. Tho cyclone crossed and reorossed tho river, scooping up immense quantities of water and discharging it over, the town. A man was lifted in tho air and was blown 50ft. , PERTH, April 8. In June last the steamer Norfolk lost her propeller 900 miles off Cape Leeuwin. Captain Corner, by fine seamanship, navigated his vessel to port. Word has now been received that the owners of tho steamer have presented Captain Corner with £3OO, and have divided £2OO among the crew.
