WELLINGTON MARKETS
There is special to chronicle in Wellington produce markets this week. Australian potatoes and onions aro still in plentiful supply. Eggs arc practically unobtainable. Oats.—Sou ill land. 'TT 5 grade are being landed at 2s lOd to 2s lid, A grade being a penny higher. Dun oats aro scarce. Prime qualities arc worth 3s 2d to 3s 3d. Chaff, prime Marlborough and Wairarapa, is selling at £4 10s to £4 15s. Hay from Canterbury is very scarce, and is worth landed £5 15s, fully 15s dearer than last year. Lines of very good quality arc due from Marlborough. which will sell below this rate. Potatoes.—Local supplies arc short, but Australians aro plentiful. Prime local aro worth £5 10s to £7 10s, Australians £5. Eggs are worth, wholesale, Is Od a dozen, and during the past throe or four days have been very scarce—practically none on the market. Fruit. —There has been a good demand for choice dessert apples, prices varying from 5s to Ds per bushel case, cookers 3s 6d to 4s Gd ; pears, dessert 5s to 15s. cookers 5s to 7s; tomatoes, choice 2s to 3s the half-case.
Vegetables.—There is a good demand at present for good vegetables of all descriptions. Cabbages, choice, aro worth os to 7s a bag, cauliflowers ‘ls to Gs Gd. parsnips 4s Gd to Gs. French beans 4s to 6s the half-case. Onions aro still coining in freely from Victoria, and the. sample this year is exceptionally fine; these aro soiling at 5s Gd to Gs. Laery and Co., Limited, Wellington, report tho following prices ruling:— Bacon (factory), sides 7id, rolls Bd, hams Bd, heavy hams Gd; pearl bar. ley, IGb per cwt; bran, £4 15s to £5 per ton: food barley. 3s io 3s 3d per bushel; barley meal. £5; butter, prime S.RI to Did per lb, pastry 7d to 8d; cocksfoot, per lb, 4id to sd: cabbages, 3s Gd to 5s per sack; cauliflowers. 4s Gd to 7s per sack; cheese, host factory, now GUI: chaff, prime, oatsheaf, £4 15s to £3 ss; eggs, fresh Is 7d to Is fld ; eggs, preserved Is 3d to Is 4d : flour, .££) 7s Gd In £f) 12s Gd per ton : fungus, -Ljd per II); maize, 2s lOd to 4s; mutton birds, in casks 4d, in kits 3d; oatmeal. £ls per ton; oats (rolled), Gs Gd to 10s per doz: oats, 3s 2d to 3s 4d ; seed oats, 3s Gd to 3s 8d: new onions, 5.s Gd to 6b Gd per cwt.
