DAMAGE BY GALES.

PHKSfi ASSOCIATION. CHEXSTCHUECH, July 10. A nor'-wester blew with great violence this morning about seven o'clock. At Mr if, G. tiarvey'6 dairy farm at the Styx, a big pine tree was snapped off , near the ground and blown on to the house. It crashed through the roof, splintering the rafters and ceiling, and generally wrecked the furniture of a bedroom, besides doing other damage. A four-months-old babv, sleeping on the bod, had a miraculous escape, for a portion of the tree was found lying across tho bed, and splintered wood lay ail over the place. AUCKLAND, July 10. A gale at Waiuku raged about 3 o'clock to-day. I/arge trees wore uprooted, and a carpenter’s shop and cowshed were unroofed, iron and timber being carried a quarter of a mile. Many fences were levelled. No doubt considerable damage will be reported later.
