TRAINING AT RICCAKTON. CHRISTCHURCH, October 30. I lip weather was fine and the going fair lor the training gallops. No sensational gallops were recorded. Quarrymnn held Oay Spark safe over a mile and a quarter run in 2min 21jscc. Golden Knight was beaten by Calibre over a mile and a halt in 2mm 50sec. Achilles and Ghoorka did a sound gallop over ten furlongs m 2niin 21see. Achilles, on the inside, was going best at tho finish, but neither was extended. Both performed pleasingly. Golden Gate seemed to easily hold Zimmerman over a three furlongs’ brush. Waiwora, in line buckle, ran two circuits at half speed. Boris was better than Marguerite at the end of the first five furlongs. Pas Sen! beat Black Diamond over six furlongs in Imin 25sec. Veneer, alone, easily ran a mile and a half in 2min 51 2-ssec. Mystification, Mahutonga, and Mnngista broke a wav, tho last-named pulling off after three furlongs had been covered, whilst Mystification beat Mahutonga by several lengths at tho end of a mile, run in Imin 52 l-ssec. Mahutonga was distinctly disappointing, and is apparently backward. _ Chivalry went four furlongs easily in 53sec. Melodeou and Lvrist covered half a mile at three-quarter speed in Slsec. Tho Mohican and Handsome Rose jumped splendidly four flights of hurdles, tho former showing out best. A large number of other horses did useful but unimportant tasks. EXCLUSION OP BOOKMAKERS, PRESS ASSOCIATION.

AUCKLAND. October 30. A largely-attended meeting of the Auckland Racing Chib was held this afternoon to consider the decision of the committee not to allow bookmakers on tho Ellerslie eoureo. The meeting was convened in response to a requisition by about fifty members. A motion’ was proposed with a view to rescinding the committee's decision. The arguments rested with the Hon E. Mitehelson, who defended the committee's action, and Mr W. Hackett, who championed the cause of the bookmakers. There was a majority in favour of tho committee's decision, so that bookmakers will not be permitted to do business at Ellerslie next Saturday. The voting was 99 for the exclusion of bookmakers, and 78 against. WELLINGTON RACING CLUB., The monthly meeting of stewards was hold yesterday afternoon. , The appeal was heard of A. Hall (owner of Niinia) against the decision of the Otaki Maori Racing Club in disqualifying Numa for the Hack Hurdle ■ Race at tho recent spring meeting. Evidence was given at considerable length by Mr Hakaraia To W henna representing tho Otaki Club, A. Hall, Vv. Young, and Geo. Walls. Tho stewards decided to allow Hall’s appeal, the weight of evidence going to show that tho horso blundered badly at the first fence, completely spoiling his chance of winning. Tho stakes will, therefore, be paid over to A. Hall, and the race awarded to Niuua. ■ Mr J. H. Pollock was appointed handicopper for (ho ensuing racing- season. Sundry other business was transacted in connection with tho opening of the Trentham course in January, the programme for which will appear shortly. Mr J. B. Harconrt, president of the club, presided. Nominations close at 9.30 o'clock tonight for all events at the Masterton Trotting Club's annual meeting. Nominations close next Thursday, at 8.30 ji.m. for the i’eilding Jockey Club’s meeting.
