FIRES.
OUTBREAKS IX WELLINGTON. The Fire Brigade was called out to suppress two outbreaks yesterday. At 10.35 a.m. a call was received from Newtown, a cottage in Regent street, owned and occupied by Mr 3?liilij) Firth. being ablaze. Two bedrooms and their contents were destroyed by fire, and the remainder of the house was damaged. The house was insured for £2OO and tho furniture for £6O in the South British office. At 7.55 p.m., the alarm-box at Martinis Fountain was broken, the kitchen of the Strand Cafe, conducted by Herbert Walter Worgcr, having caught fire. Tho outbreak was quickly suppressed, the damage being very slight. A man with a baby iu his arms and another with a parrot in a cage came sliding down the verandah posts into the street immediately the alarm wax given. Tralfic was suspended on the quay for a few minutes only. The-premises are owned by the Union Bank. The contents were insured for £2OO in the Liverpool, London and Globe office.
