WELLINGTON COLLEGE OLD BOYS.
ANNUAL MEETING. 'Hie annual general mooting of the Wellington College Old Hoys’ Association was hold in tho nners street, last night. Mr E. 0. Pilcher presided. The annual report that there were 161 life members and 514 ordinary members—an increase of 41 during the year. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of 111 til 3s lid. Iho ruin of £SO bad been placed on deposit, and the interest was to bo to the purchase of an “Old Boys’ Prize for the school, to be awarded for mathematics in the sixth form. The Social Club was in occupation of new promises. The rooms were expected to bo n strengthening adjunct to the association. It was suggested that the concert which had boon held should bo made an annual function. The Cricket dub, with an active membership of sixty-five, bad entered four teams for Ihe various championships. Tho Football Club was in a good financial position; its active members numbered eighty-one. The trophies for the old boys’ handicap events at the college ■sports had been presented by Air A. Myers, the college, and the association. Tho general secretary bad the “Old Boys' ■Record” in band. In tho effort to bring this publication up to date over 1300 circulars had been sent out, but only about 375 bad boon returned with 'information filled in as requested. However, if old boys would second the efforts of those engaged in the compilation of tho work, it would bo possible to publish tho “Record’ during tho year. The doings of old boys wore chronicled in tho “Wollingtonian." The committee regretted the death of the following members;—H. Brnmloy, _S. Parsons, IV. J. Shaw, and P. N. Wilson.
Tile chairman, in moving the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, said ho was glad to see an ex-president (Dr Martin) present. He congratulated the club upon its prosperous condition. With reference to the “Record,” ho said great interest had been taken in tho first issue of that work. Mr Denton referred to a matter not mentioned in tho report. A piano had been presented to the association by tho ’ Bcfhunc, at tbo request of choir late mother. Tbo report and balance-sheet wore passed. Mr Denton gave a review of the progress of tho association. In 1891 an “old boys’ ” dinner war, held; in 1893 the annual dance had been instituted; End in 1899 the association had been strengthened by tho affiliation of the 'Various old boys’ clubs. The Social Hub was former] about two years ago. Caro must be taken at tho present jnne'.'ure to preserve tbo good repute of the association. Tlio following officers were elected: — President, Mr W. E. Bethune; general .secretary, Mr S. Jacobs; lion secretary, Mr O. S. Kcodwell; hon treasurer, Mr j’l. L. Salmon; bon auditor, Mr W. H. Morrah; committee, Messrs Gilmer, Brown, Lnckie. Darrocb, Kivkcaldie, Wilson, and Solomon. The usual grant of £5 5s to the Wellington College ground fund was authorised. A grant was made to the Social Club to cover expenditure incurred in the framing of pictures and portraits presented to the, association. A vole of thanks to Mr Denton, who retired from office, and who had been largely instrumental in organising tho association, was carried with enthusiasm. Thanks was also accorded to Messrs S. S. Brown and A. J. Seed, and to the iTstiring president. Mr J. P. Blacklock moved that the necessary expenditure be voted for the repair of tho billiard-table. Mr F. M. Luokie moved, as an amendment, that •(ho matter be referred to the committee, with power to act. The amendment was ■tarried. ,
