MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of the above body was held last evening. Rresont—The Mayor (Mr F. Townsend), Councillors Wardell, McGrath, Richards, and Witt. FINANCE. The Mayor announced that owing to the rate-books not having yet been returned, ho would have to make arrangements with tho bank to carry on in the ■meantime. The bank balance showed a debit of £4 9s 7d. ■ Accounts amounting to £llO 12s 4d wore passed for payment. WATTS PENINSULA ROADS. . The Mayor reported that a committee appointed by tho Council had inspected tho Watts Peninsula roads, and had pointed, out to the representatives vf the company concerned certain small alterations required. To cover tho cost of these a deposit of £3O had been lodged with the Council by tho company, and the roads had now been taken over by tho Council. He congratulated the Council on tho acquisition of tho roads; they wore the best (ho Council had yet acquired in respect of formation, metal, and finish. Tho Valuer-Goneral wrote, stating in reference to tho vouchers for subsidy which had been withheld, owing to an audit objection that there was no statutory authority for paying to the borough moneys which wore assets of tho late Board, ho had now to inform the Council that tho SolioitorGeaeral advised that as tho Governor would in all probability bo called upon to male© tho apportionment , of assets and liabilities between the county and borough, the payment of subsidy on cates could lie made in terms of his award. In the meantime the payment «f tho subsidy would be hold over. A DANGEROUS ROAD. Councillor Richards drew attention to the dangerous state of portion of tho Karaka road. Between Hislop’s houso and the rock it was practically undermined. Tho engineer was instructed to see to tho matter. THE FERRY SERVICE. A deputation from tho Miramar Ferry Co., Ltd., waited upon tho Council in reference to tho ferry service, and the best method of improving it, the question being one of pur•shase or subsidy. Tho deputation confirmed the previous offer made by the vompany, and it was decided to have the matter considered in open Countil at next mooting.'
