Empire Day was otlicially cclobiatcd in the Canadian schools on Tuesday. Public men delivered patriotic addresses, and appropriate musical programmes were gone through. To-clay is to be observed as a holiday. ENTHUSIASiM~tF NEW SOOTH WALES. PATRIOTIC SPEECHES AND SONGS. (Received Mav 24, 11.56 p.m.) SYDNEY, May 24. Tho weather was fine for tho Empire D?iy celebrations, which wero highly successful in New South Wales, as well as in tho other States. Enthusiastic demonstrations were made bv school children throughout tho State, the features of, which were tho unfurling of flags, patriotic speeches by loading men, appropriate musical programmes, and sports. Tbo city and harbour were gay with bunting. Tho statues of tho late Queen Y'iotoria were decorated. Speaking at the Lord Mayor’s luncheon in honour of the occasion,, tho Governor (Sir Harry Dawson) said ho thought Empire Day would do an immense amount of good throughout tho Empire, by drawing us all together, and instructing young Australia as to her heritage. Lord Nordhcoto. Governor-General of Australia, has sent a message to the people cordially identifying himself with tho celebration of Empire Day by manifesting loyalty to tho 'great Empire. Tho State Governor has received a similar message.

Telegrams to hand show that Empire Day was celebrated oy tho schools at meet centres of tho colony, ,the ceremony of saluting tho flag being generally observed.
