THE MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
Councillor W. H. P. Barber, M.H.8., having held preliminary meetings in connection with his Mayoral, candidature during,tho past few weeks. openeil hia campaign proper at Heginbotbam s Hall, TCilbirnie, last evening. The hall was well filled Mr Heginbotham was voted to the chair. The candidate gave an address which occupied about two hours in delivery. He mentioned os important works which had been carried out during his fourteen years’ terra of service as a councillor, drainage, improved lighting, street-widening, wood-blocking of thoroughfares, reserves improvements, iown Hall and new Corporation offices, fare brigade stations, libraries, electric trams, baths at Thorndon and Te Aro He pledged himself that,: if elected to The Mayoralty, he would continue an active disciple of progress, and would urge prompt observance of all the obligations entered into with Melrose on its absorption in the city. The candidate s remarks during his speech were frequently applauded A unanimous vote of thanks and confidence in Mr Barber was passed. Mr Barber’s first principal address in the city proper will be given in th© Druids Hall, Taranaki street, *on Monday. Councillor J. J. Devine met his Berhampore friends and supporters in connection with his candidature for the Mayoralty last evening. Mr Edmunds was voted to tho chair. Mr Devine;, addressed tho meeting, and, having answered questions, a vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously; Mr F. Loudon is a candidate for a seat on the City Council. An address to the electors will be found in another column. The nominations for the offices of Mayor and City Councillors are to close at the Town Hall before, noon on , Thursday next. The elections are bo take place on Wednesday, Sfith inst. , Mr J. P. Campbell announces that he will be a candidate for the Karori Mayoralty; ■ , . > Mr George Frost will be a candidate for election to the City Council.’ ,Mr James Trevor .will be a candidate for municipal honours at the coming election. An address-to the electors appears in another column. - Mr Wardell addresses’ the electors at Sydney street schoolroom on Tuesday, and at the Victoria Hall bn Wednesday* . Mr John P. Luke speaks at St. Mark’s schoolroom on, Tuesday, and at the Druids’ Hall on Wednesday. Mr Hislop’s committee will meet at Aro street Mission Hall oh’Jroriday, ’ ■
