PALMERSTON NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Monday. At the quarterly meeting of the Palmerston North Licensing Committee today, there were present:—Messrs A. D, Thomson, S.M. (chairman), W. T. Wood, M.H.8., Palmer, Beck, Jack, and Ravenhill. Transfers were granted from F. J. Tasker (Cafe de Paris) to E. Woollright, and from M. Hodgins (Phoenix Hotel) to George McDonald. Sergeant Stagpoole reported favourably on the manner in which the various hotels had beou conducted. Some discussion about the proposed rebuilding of the Central Hotel followed, but nothing definite was decided on. The proposed rebuilding of the Railway Hotel was also commented on, and Mr Innes announced, on behalf of ther licensee,’ that the erection of the building is to commence at an early date. The committee adjourned till the 10th prox/ When meting out fines this morning on several charges of cycling on footpaths, the Stipendiary Magistrate remarked that this practice is growing, in spite of the ’extra fines he lias been inflicting. Unless there is a marked decrease in the number of these cases, he will further increase the penalties. Wort in connection with arranging the bazaar, which is to be*‘opened on fHe 19th of this month, is being enthusiastically carried on. The ladies are hard at work with the needle, whilst the men lay further schemes for enticing the public to patronise the undertaking. The bazaar is in aid of the Palmerston North Brass Band,
