STACKELBERG IN TROUBLE AGAIN.
OUT OFF WEST OF LIAOYANG. A GEN IDEAL'SERIOUSLY WOUNDTDD. RUSSIAN'S LOSE THREE THOUSAND MEN. LONDON, September 4. St. Petersburg intelligence states that rumours are abroad that twentyfive thousand men of the First Siberian Army Corps, commanded by General
Stackelberg, wore cut off west of Xnaoyang.
During the retreat General Stackel-bc-rg's First Siberians extricated General Orla/r.s detachment, which was threatened with annihilation after an unsuccessful attack on the Japanese flank. General Orloff was seriously wounded. The Russians lost three thousand men. LOSSES DUETO PANIC. (Received September 5, 10.-Ti p.m.) LONDON, September 5. An unofficial message ascribes General OrlofT’s losses to panic,- owing to unexpected fire from the Japanese—who were concealed among tall grass—-as Orloffs detachment was retreating.
