FIRES.

PBKSS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, June 2. William Cudclon’s grain-crushing mill, worked in conjunction with a malt-house at Fendalton, . was totally destroyed by fire to-night. The building, which was of four stories, contained machinery valued at £ISOO, and was full of stock, peas, barley and chicory. The only insurance was about £IOOO in the New Zealand office. Mr Cuddon estimates his loss at £2OOO. The mill had been working all day, and the only suggested cause of the fire is the possible heating of bearings in the upper story.

FEILDING, Juno 2. A boardinghouse at Colyton was totally destroyed by fire at 5 o’clock this morning. The insurance on the building is £6OO, and on the furniture £450 in tht London, Liverpool and Globe office.

About 10.30 yesterday morning fire broke out in the house of Mr A. Martin, in Britannia street, Petone. The local brigade was quickly on the scene, and extinguished the fire, which was found to have originated in a bedroom. The house was insured in the Commercial Union for £350. The losf is estimated at about £2O.
