PALMERSTON NORTH.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Friday. At a committee meeting of the Halfholiday Association, this morning, a request from the Caledonian Society, asking that Wednesday. December 30th (the date of tho society’s sports meeting) bo declared a half holiday, was declined. The ladies of AH Saints’ Church arc organising a largo flower show, dated fc-r December 2nd, in aid of clinrcSi funds. A series of competitive classes has been arranged, including these for children. Tho committee has also arranged for apromenade concert during the. evening. Tho Mauawatu Poultry Association to-night appointed Air F. J. France, of Wellington, delegate to the North Island Association. It was decided to recommend that in all classes judging by points be considered. Tho question of importation of foreign eggs came unde e-discussion, and it was resolved to ask tho Department of Agriculture for information on thosubject, including the amount of duty imposed on such eggs. At a mooting of the Manawatu and Wont Coast Caledonian Society to-night tho programme for tho inaugural sports, to be held ou December 30th, was drawn up, together with a prizelist (value £130). Air Ulio Shannon was appointed handioapper. Another meeting will shortly be held to appoint stewards and a ground committee! Applications for tho position of borough engineer were considered in committee by the Cotmoil to-night. Four names were selected from the list. The final choice will bo made on Holiday night. A Potono man heads the list of four for selection. Tho North Island Brass Bands Association has issued a circular to bands competing at tbo band contest to be held at Palmerston North in 1904, stating that tho musio for the trombone trio contest will bo “ Tho Old Pensioners ” and that for quartettes “ 0 God, Whose Almighty Power.”
