THE HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.
PRESS ASSOCIATION. AXJCKXiAND, July 21. At a meeting of retail tradesmen a resolution was carried protesting against the. proposed compulsory Saturday halfholiday. The meeting also disapproved the proposal to include Labour Day as a special holiday. PALMERSTON, July 21. A meeting to-night passed a resolution protesting against the measure now before Parliament to make Saturday a compulsory half-holiday, and urging that a universal Wednesday half-holiday bo established. OAMARU, July 21. At a full meeting of tradesmen last night a resolution strongly condemning the proposal in the Shops and Shop Assistants Bill to make Saturday halfholiday compulsory was carrier! unanimously. It was decided to promote a petition against the clausa.
