TERRIBLE ACCIDENT NEAR SUMNER. PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH. July 21. A man named .lolxn Barotta was run over by a tram-car from Sumner last night, and killed. The car had just passed Burns’s jetty, when the driver saw a short distance ahead a man wheeling a bicycle between tho rails. Ho reversed his engine and applied the brakes immediately, at the same time shouting to the man to leavo tbo track. The driver’s efforts, however, proved futile; the engine struck the man, knocked him down, ran over him, and dragged him along for some distance. The following car also passed over the -body. The bicycle, too, was run over and’ dragged along by tho engine.
