GOLF.

(By "All Square.”) A few months ago the question was raised as to whether the bunkers at the 3th, 7th and 17 th holes at Sandringham were fairly placed. Wishing to get the views of some expert on the matter, the Bsv. W. G. Macouochie wrote to J. !!-. Taylor. Taylor’s reply came to hand the otlier day. He says:—"The bunkers at all these holes are at too great a distance from the tee for the purpose of catching a badly hit second stroke, or allow.ng a fairly good second to get safely over. I consider a bunker placed at 320 and 330 yards from the tee quite far . enough, as it requires two sound, honest strokes to get the distance, besides having to carry a hunker at the end of it. . . . I consider that the bunkers are also placed too ,near the green, as they have to bo carried by a shot from a wooden club. Tlie hole should be 60 yards from tho tee in'; thia.qase, aud 40 or 50 yards for an iropi-appfdaoh - shot." Taylor also objects to the belts of tl_ trecs at the 15th and 17th holes at Sandringham. He olaims that trees are verybad hazards, as it depends entirely on luck whether the player can get out by one good stroke, or whether he must take more. Taylor says that trees are not found on any Home golf links, and ho underlines these words rather suggestively. These hints -from one who has had much experience in all golfing matters should be carefully noted.
