SAMOA.

(Received December 26, 9.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 25. Dr Scholf, Governor of Samoa, is on a visit to Sydney, on route to Apia, after an extended,absence. Interviewed on tho question of trade in Samoa, Dr Scholf said matters were somewhat quiet, but tho natives were now commencing to work, and things would soon ho brisk. There was muoh to bo done, ho said, and tho German Government was fully alive to that fact. With a view of increasing trade, it was proposed to import labour to assist the natives, which would probably he o'btained either from China or Java, to be employed in agriculture and general coolio work.

Dr’Scholf spoko of tho excellent work of tho missionaries in Samoa. Ho has spent his vacation in visiting China, Java and tho Philippines.
