COLONIAL FORCES.
RECRUITING FOR THE IMPERIAL ARMY. (Received December 27, 1.7 a.m.) MELBOURNE, December 26. The text of a scheme drawn up by Lieut.-Colonol Albham of what the War Office at the Imperial Conference wanted Australia to do in the way of recruiting the Imperial army has been circulated. Tho main features of the scheme are the formation of two mounted and one infantry brigade, to bo at tho disposal of the Imperial Government in case of war the title to bo “Tho Imperial Australian force.” The officers were to bo nominated by the Governor-General on tho advice of tho Ministry, and to bo granted temporary rank in the army, tho right being reserved for tho King to appoint on mobilisation a supremo commanding officer and headquarters staff. Training in time of peace was to be the same as for tho partially paid Australian forces. The men wore to serve for not less than two years, and in ar time serve wherever wanted.
The pay, when in the Commonwealth, was to he according to Australian rates, and when abroad at English rates.
Tho approximate strength of the force was to bo nine thousand men of ali ranks.
